Hi. My name is Randy Travis - no not the singer, but I did have the name first - and I started this store with the idea of helping freshmen or any college student with the things you need for your dorm room. A couple of years ago, my nephew graduated from high school and we wanted to get a graduation gift that was practical and not the typical clothes or CD's. We went out and picked up the things that we knew he could use in his dorm room but wouldn't think of until he was moved in. Things like hangers, hooks, quarters, first aid kit, flashlight and more. We packed it all in a underbed storage box he could use later to store other things. Needless to say he loved it. All the little things he needed the first few weeks of school were already packed up for him. Several friends asked him where he got all the stuff. His parents liked it also. It saved them time and money not having to rush around at the last minute shopping for these items. This is the idea behind DormPac. To give the college student a convienent dorm kit with all the things they need to get them started in their dorm for the first week and throughout whole year. I went to the University of Montana back in the days when an entertainment system was only a stereo receiver with a turntable (ever hear of records?) and a casette or 8-track tape deck. The only appliances were a popcorn popper or hot dog cooker (two metal prongs that you stuck the end of the hot dog on an plugged in) and if you were lucky, a 2-sixpack fridge. Decorating the room meant hanging fishnet, woodgrain contact paper and how many pop or beer cans you could put in the window. For a loft we went out in the forest and cut some trees and put the trunks in the room to give different places to hang the fishnetting. Now college students bring an average of 14 or more applinaces to school including CD's, PC's, DVD's, VCR's, TV's, etc. Organizing all this stuff is not easy since dorm rooms are the same size they were 25 years ago. Trying to pack everything you need and just gotta have is challenging for both parents and students. DormPac's and the Comple College Supplies Checklist are one way to ease some of this stress. Thank you for visiting DormPac. We will be expanding our line in the future to include among others, apartment and kitchen Pacs. If you have suggestions that would improve any DormPac or the checklist please send them to comments@dormpac.com. Randy Travis, President DormPac.com |
